Starbucks is one of James’s guilty pleasures. He’d go there every day if he could. When we first started dating, I quite enjoyed the Starbucks coffees that always seemed to end up on my desk in the mornings. 🙂 But these days it’s more of an occasional reward than an every day thing.

The other morning I was craving Starbucks, but didn’t want to spend the money. Being on unpaid maternity leave really makes you pinch those pennies! So instead, I made my own DIY Pumpkin Spice Syrup. This recipe makes so much syrup you can keep it for weeks! It’s the perfect way to enjoy a fall-inspired morning. #whitegirlstyle

DIY Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Pumpkin Puree
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla (optional)

Mix the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then reduce head to low. Stir in the spices and pumpkin. Stirring occasionally, simmer until the syrup thickens just a bit. Remove from heat and let cool about 15 minutes.

And that’s it! It’s so simple, just pour the syrup in a container to store in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. I like putting a couple tablespoons into my morning coffee with some soy milk added in. Complete with Jake the Dog mug. #adventuretime
